SERIES 5000 V-2 — LBOGAIN & PREEMPHASIS QUICK REFERENCE
Purpose: Use this chart to match cable length to optimal Line Buffer Output Gain (LBOGAIN) and Pre-Emphasis (PREEMPHASIS) settings for best image quality.
| Cable Length (m) | LBOGAIN (0–3) | PREEMPHASIS (0–7) | Field Notes |
| < 200 m | 0 | 0–1 | Minimal compensation; short, low-loss cable. |
| 200–400 m | 1 | 2–3 | Light boost for mid-length runs. |
| 400–600 m | 2 | 4–5 | Increased gain and HF boost to offset attenuation. |
| 600–800 m | 3 | 5–7 | High compensation; monitor for noise or artifacts. |
Adjustment Tips
• LBOGAIN increases signal amplitude before transmission over tow cable.
• PREEMPHASIS boosts high-frequency content to counter cable-induced losses.
• Start with recommended values, then fine-tune during sea trial to optimize image clarity without raising noise floor.
• Record final settings in mission log.
⚠ Caution: Avoid maximum values unless needed for long, lossy cables — excessive settings can cause distortion.
