Operational Guidance
Most Klein Side Scan Sonar Systems can be operated out of the water for short durations, specifically for the purpose of functional testing and diagnostics. However, there are critical limitations and exceptions that must be followed to prevent damage to the equipment.
General Limitation
Maximum out-of-water operation time: 20 minutes
Running the system in air for more than 20 minutes may lead to overheating or sensor degradation. Always ensure proper ventilation and avoid continuous operation beyond this limit.
Exceptions
The following systems should not be operated out of the water, except for brief functional checks:
- AUV3500
- System 5900
These systems are designed with cooling and operating parameters that rely heavily on water immersion. If out-of-water operation is absolutely necessary, it must be limited to short periods only and solely for deck-based functional tests.
Recommendations
- Always consult the system manual for specific operational constraints.
- Avoid extended dry testing whenever possible.
- Use test environments that mimic operational conditions if available.
